Attorney Hager Chosen to Serve on Florida Bar Grievance Committee

Our team at Hager & Schwartz, P.A. is proud to be able to announce that founding partner John S. Hager, Esq. has been appointed as a Florida Bar grievance committee member and will serve for the next three years. In order to become a grievance committee member, an attorney must be a clear example of what it means to be a truly dedicated and knowledgeable legal professional. Lawyers without a strong understanding of the law and courtroom procedures and those without a great record of case ethics will not be chosen as a grievance committee member.

It is a great honor for Attorney Hager to be selected, as this shows that the Florida Bar has recognized his skill and has placed its faith in his abilities. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Florida Bar for appointing Attorney Hager to a grievance committee.

About Grievance Committees

There are 20 judicial circuits throughout Florida. Each one of these circuits will have one or more grievance committee, which functions much like a grand jury. When a complaint is filed against a lawyer or other legal professional based on potential violations of acceptable regulations and courtroom or case conduct, it will move to a grievance committee for in-depth review.

A grievance committee is to be comprised of a certain amount of attorneys and half that amount of non-lawyer legal experts. This eclectic group of professionals are tasked with determining if complaints are actually actionable and whether or not there is probable cause to believe that the lawyer in question truly did violate conduct rules as established by the Supreme Court of Florida. The committee can also determine what sort of discipline should be used against a lawyer in violation of the rules, assuming that discipline is ultimately imposed.
