Waiting until the last minute to hire an attorney is not a good idea

On almost a daily basis I receive calls from potential clients who are shopping around for an attorney. They tell me that their court date is in a month and they want to find the best attorney that fits within their budget. The potential clients take their time and believe that as long as they have an attorney appear with them in court at their first court date, there was no harm done to them in waiting until the last minute. That couldn't be further from the truth! There are many things that could be done prior to the first court appearance and even prior to the charges being filed by the prosecutor. Contacting the victim (if it is a victim crime) in the case prior to going to court may allow us to determine if the victim is willing to pursue the case and testify against you. Further, there may be some evidence that needs to be gathered immediately (witnesses that are leaving the state, videotape, blood samples, urine, etc) that may not be available at a later time after the case is filed. Having an experienced criminal defense attorney like the attorneys at Hager & Schwartz, PA handle your case may just very well prevent your case from being filed by the prosecutor or it may result in the reduction of the initial charges that were going to be filed against you. So, now that you are educated about why shouldn't wait until the last minute to hire an attorney, contact Hager & Schwartz, PA today so that we can start chipping away at the prosecutor's case and get the upper hand.
