What is the Florida Legal Elite?
The selection process for this distinct award started in October 2014 when members of the Florida Bar were invited by the Florida Trend to announce voting guiding principle and ballot deadlines. During this time, attending attorneys were requested to name lawyers whom they would recommend to other individuals and whom they believe are respectable due to work ethic. Additionally, the voting lawyers were asked to list three up-and-coming lawyers, superb lawyers working in non-profit sectors and in the government.
Once the ballots were processed, each elected attorney was given a score, which was determined by the amount of votes they receive from outside their law firm. Only those who were practicing in and licensed in Florida were eligible. Those who received the highest scores were moved to the next portion of the process. During this part of the process, each lawyer was examined by any histories provided by the Florida Bar. Those named to the 2016 Florida Legal Elite only make up 2% of the active members of the Florida Bar.
